Rare Gold Sovereigns – A Clever way to Save

EndeavourCollection

Buying gold sovereigns online is safe and easy when you use PayPal your purchase is guaranteed and with free registered postage you will get your rare gold coin usually within 3 days. Most investors buy rare gold coins as they are a far more affordable asset than large gold bullion ingots or the start up costs in the Stock market.

Rare gold sovereigns are the best kept secret in the gold investment community as their value has grown over 7500% since 1933. If you have any questions about gold sovereign investing or looking for a specific date and grade please let Royal Sovereigns assist you.

Gold sovereigns are easy to transport and lock away for safety, they are high in liquidity, you can sell them in any major city at dozens of locations for instant cash at a highly competitive price. Gold sovereigns are also highly collectable in numismatic terms, there are many collectors looking for special dates in certain grades. Generally the higher the grade of your rare gold sovereign the more it’s worth.

There is a symbiotic association between the daily spot gold bullion price and rare coins, it works this way. When the gold price is on the rise, gold sovereigns tend to also go up in value because first and foremost they are 22 carat gold, however should the profit takers step in and the gold price drop, the sovereigns have the habit of staying where they are, waiting for the bullion price to catch up again. In effect this is like a secondary insurance for your wealth, you have the always present gold value but also you have the numismatic value which always is higher than the bullion price especially on the scarce dates.

No other class of assent has this amazing duality of being desirable for two reasons at the same time. Take shares, they only have one purpose and one value, that is their price at any given point in time, the shares have no other reason for existing. This double value that a rare gold sovereign has cannot be understated, it is so profoundly important that it needs to be said again, these rage gold coins will always be able to be sold for their gold content, that is a given, however they ALSO have an even greater value to the coin collectors of the world and with each passing year there are more people turning to rare gold sovereigns.

This brings about another point of supply and demand, without trying to put too fine a point on it, every gold sovereign that was ever made between the years of 1855 to 1931 (the years that Australia produced gold sovereigns) has been made, there are no more, in fact most were melted down for various reason that you can research in our history pages. Many coins have simply been lost and many were worn away through use. The fine rare gold sovereigns that exists today is a finite number yet the demand grows with each passing year as more collectors and now investors are switching on to the amazing financial opportunity these coins represent.

So with the double value plus the supply and demand all in favour of rare gold sovereigns, it’s little wonder that we sell most as soon as we get them because they represent a significant alternative and adjunct to your investment portfolio. Finally, the single biggest reason for purchasing rare gold sovereigns is their affordability, let’s be really honest here, not many people, even those doing particularly well, can afford to simply go and buy a 1Kg bar of pure gold, the price is just too prohibitive. A rare gold sovereign can be purchased today for around $500.00 and as I have been telling my clients for years, if you buy just one rare gold sovereign a week, you will end up with 52 in a year and well on the way to securing your financial future. Even purchasing just one a month is a better method of forced savings and you can look at, touch and appreciate your wealth right in your own hands, it’s not a piece of paper or pixel of light on a monitor, it’s real gold!

Free Price Guides and new FACT BOOK

Royal Sovereigns has been sponsored by the Endeavour Collection for a further five years with a wonderful package which means that we can give away both the SlabTracker and Raw price guides absolutely free of charge. They have also generously funded the FACT BOOK which is under construction but already on the website (see the main menu above).

Due to these recent developments the former members section has been dismantled because now everybody can simply take what they like free of charge anytime 24 x 7, everyday for the next five years. Another development is the expansion from a predominantly Australian focused website to the world stage with the inclusion of a world sovereigns section in the online shop, we are now actively sourcing suitable stock for sale in this section. Meanwhile our Australian stocks have grown and business is brisk due to the favourable press gold is receiving these days.

The Royal Sovereigns FACT BOOK is the largest undertaking of its kind, with a serious attempt to document thoroughly every sovereign type ever minted anywhere. This is a multi phase project done in conjunction with the Kitco numismatic forum members which is a truly international collaboration, work is progressing at a pleasing rate. Phase two will document varieties and as most numismatist know this section is virtually unlimited, but we believe it is a worthwhile cause to record for future generations.

Finally, our online sales as mentioned earlier are brisk and we believe the combination of very high grades, free registered postage, PayPal as a method of payment and the current bullish sentiment towards rare gold coins as opposed to other forms of investment as the stock market have all contributed to this current boom time. Don’t forget however that for every sovereign we sell, we need to buy one to maintain our inventory levels, so if you are looking to liquidate part or all of your collection, please contact Royal Sovereigns for an appraisal.

How to locate a coin

The Royal Sovereigns Coin Locator is a unique service that assists collectors and investors to find coins for sale form the major dealers around the world. Specializing in only Australian full gold sovereigns, the Royal Sovereigns SlabTracker is an aggregator that brings certified PCGS coins together in one place sourced from the USA, GB, Greece, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

There are hundreds of certified coins listed in the Royal Sovereigns database which is updated every single day of the year. There is a new certified gold sovereign either sold or offered for sale every few hours somewhere around the world. Royal Sovereigns has a team of monitors who track their respective territories and continuously attend to the aggregator which also acts as a trending tool.

Going back more than a decade the historical records act as a very graphic representation of the ebb and flow of a specific coins journey. There is more than just tracking the price, seeing the ups and downs in consumer confidence which coincide with the boom or bust cycles of the fiscal world.  Because individual certified coins are numbered, it is possible to track the coin which may have sold and resold many times, this is actually more often than not the case with mid range rarity coins.

The ultra rare coins are usually tucked away for a generation at a time and less seldom seen. In this case the Royal Sovereigns coin locator acts as a price guide retrospectively. It does not actually help you price the coin today but knowing that it sold 15 years ago for a certain price, gives you a great starting point to factor inflation in and workout what the coin might be currently worth.

The more common coins that sell in greater frequency are easier to value because if a coin sold 18 months ago, you would not have to work much into it to arrive at today’s value. Having a record of a specific coin that sold which has a certified grade, sold for exactly the nominated amount on a known date is all you need to make an informed purchase when that coin next appears for sale.

Royal Sovereigns SlabTracker does exactly that, it keeps track of slabbed full gold sovereigns that have been certified by PCGS and can be accessed instantly 24 x 7 via the Internet for a quick check to see if the coin you are considering buying has been sold before and for how much. The dealers section of the SlabTracker has a colour coding schema that lets the subscriber to the service know if the coin is actually for sale or not. Coins that are priced in Green are for sale and a link is provided back to the sellers website for more information and possible sale.

Once that coin sells, the entry in the SlabTracker changes to black and acts as a historical fact that it sold and remains in black until the exact same coin is offered for sale again at some point in the future.

For Australian full gold sovereign collectors the Royal Sovereigns SlabTracker is an invaluable tool, it locates coins for sale, it records historical sales data, acts as a price trending tool and can also be used to make determinations regarding a specific dates rarity by the number of times it comes up for sale. Simply stated extremely rare coins just don’t get offered for sale as frequently as more common coins and this can be easily seen in the tabular display of the SlabTracker where you can see as many as 100 entries on a single page.

By using the filters on the SlabTracker you can achieve an almost infinite number of different displays, sorting via date, mint, reverse design, grade, sales date or price. There is an enormous amount of flexibility in the way you can view information in the SlabTracker and the great thing is that no matter how long it lasts, or how long it’s been since a coin sold, the usefulness of knowing that never goes away. Knowledge is power and there really isn’t anyplace else you can go to look up the sales history of unique individual numbered gold sovereigns. There are many hundreds of entries already and with each passing day more dealers, auction houses, members and subscribers send their information to us and the SlabTracker is growing exponentially.

A secondary offshoot is the Raw daily price guide, designed along similar lines to the SlabTracker and factored into the price plus watching online activity from Ebay and a myriad of other online sources, the raw daily price is affordable for download in PDF format for only $5.00 or is included in SlabTracker subscriptions. The Raw coins are not certified, therefore not specifically numbered and the grade is an educated guess between the seller and buyer. These raw coins change price very rapidly and in most cases are heavily influenced by the bullion price of the day.

Both Royal Sovereigns products the SlabTracker and Raw Price Guide are guaranteed as accurate as humanly possible however before making a decision to buy you should seek the services of a professional numismatist. The prices though historically accurate cannot be used as a guarantee that the same or similar coin will sell for the amount it did before in the past.

Top 10 rarest gold coins in the world

I stumbled across an interesting article on the rarest numismatic gold coins in the world. The list is not absolute and seems to be linked to the precious metal content, rarity, and sales values reached in the market place. Interestingly two Aussie gold treasures make the top 10 list, coming in 6th the 1920 Sydney Mint proof gold sovereign and in 8th place the beautiful 1852 Adelaide gold pound.

Read the full listing and see excellent images on the following link:

Royal Sovereigns working towards a better pricelist

Welcome to Royal Sovereigns, this website is dedicated to the majestic gold sovereign. Although primarily interested in Australian gold sovereigns from 1855 to 1931, we occasionally will publish information regarding sovereigns from other countries and outside our preferred date range. We are also keen to work with other early colonial Australian gold coins, such as the Adelaide pound for example.

Like most numismatists, we continually need more information and the search for reliable data is an endless task. If you have some information that is not displayed on this website, please make contact via the ‘Contact Us’ facility and we would love to include your details, images etc. We enjoy collecting and are keen to share information with our visitors. For the more serious collectors we have a subscription price guide which is updated daily, covering both raw and slabbed Australian full gold sovereigns.

We have been grading coins for over forty years and the thrill of seeing new examples never ceases to enthrall us. Through the last four decades there have been many changes in attitudes to grading and we will endeavour to demystify that aspect of our hobby on this website. We are active collectors who will buy any genuine Australian Gold Sovereign and pay a fair price for it, especially if it is one of our gaps. Please send as much information and a high quality image of your sovereign for sale plus your asking price to info@royalsovereigns.com We see the exchange of information with new collectors as an ongoing education and are glad to share what we know in exchange for the opportunity to learn more, we have found that you never stop learning in this hobby.
